FINISH AND SPECIFICATION

No.1  A rough, dull surface, which results from hot rolling to the specified thickness, followed by annealing and descaling.

2D  A dull finish which results from cold rolling followed by annealing and descaling, and may perhaps gets a final light roll pass through unpolished rolls. A 2D finish is used where appearance is not a concern.

2B

(Mill Finish) A bright, cold-rolled finish resulting in the same manner as 2D finish, except that the annealed and descaled sheet received a final light roll pass through polished rolls. This is the general-purpose cold-rolled finish that can be used as is, or a preliminary step to polishing

BA

(Bright Anneal) The bright annealed mill surface is obtained by annealing the material under an atmosphere, so that scale is not produced on the surface.

Brushed Finish

(No.3/No.4/No.5/No.6) This is a ground unidirectional finish obtained with 150/180/240/320 grit abrasive, which is characterized by parallel brushing lines, it is also known as Satin.

Scotch Brite It's a semi-dull finish with uniform grain, which is obtained using finer abrasives than No.4/NO.5/NO.6. This finish has smooth, soft and exquisite grains which has a low level of reflectivity and unidirectional texture.

Hairline  Seemingly endless polishing lines extend uniformly along with the length of the coil give the hairline. It's a well-defined directional finish with long-grain and fine-line.

Super Mirror

(No.8) This is a polished finish having a high degree of reflectiveness which can be done on all the grades of stainless steel. It is produced by progressively using finer abrasives and finally finishing with extremely fine buffing compounds. The final surface is blemish free with a high degree of image clarity.

Vibration Vibration is a multi-directional finish. It is also known by the names Non-Directional Satin and Angel Hair. Vibration has a uniform texture with random, multi-directional grit lines.

CD Overlay CD Overlay is a patterned polished steel finish that is applied mechanically to the surface of stainless steel sheets. These stainless polished steel finishes can be created with various visual effects, which are designed for architectural and other applications.

Bead Blast  This finish results in a non-directional textured surface with a soft satin reflection and low reflectivity.This finish has an aesthetic appeal and enhances the surface properties of stainless steel.

Etched Finish Etched patterns are created by selectively applying a protective acid resistant film to a highly polished surface and acid etching the unprotected areas. The etching removes a thin layer of stainless steel, changes the color to a dull silver gray, and roughens the surface. Etched finished made an attractive surface on the metal, which is applied on architectural and other applications.

Embossed Finish  Embossed finish is a stainless steel finish that is uniformly textured. There are two main types of Embossed Finish: 1 sided pattern, where the reverse side is paint; another one is 2 sided patterns where the pattern is imprinted through to reverse side.

PVD Coating  Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) is a process to produce a metal vapor (titanium, chromium and aluminum) that can be deposited on electrically conductive materials as a thin highly adhered pure metal or alloy coating. The process is carried out in a vacuum chamber at vacuum using a cathodic arc source. A wide variety of colors can be achieved by adding other gases during the deposition.

• Standard Coating: Paper Interleaved, PE or Laser PE Coating are available

• Standard Package: Waterproof wrapping and cardboard encase all the pack of the sheets, with metal edge production for all top edges. The strap aligned from bottom bearer to the top, with edge protection on all top corners that meets the sheets

• Wooden Pallets or customized Pallets are acceptable

Mirror (No.8, Non-Directional) is a high gloss, polished finish, having a high degree of reflectiveness which can be done on all the grades of stainless steel. It is produced by progressively using finer abrasives and finally finishing with extremely fine buffing compounds. Stanch Mirror surface is blemish free and has perfect reflective quality. 


Production: 

Chemical wet polish is way different from dry polish. Dry polish can only get No.7 finish which is brighter than BA but with directional lines. Our chemical polishing process provides non-directional super mirror finish which is totally transparent without any line marks.

The reflectivity of Mirror finish creates light and space and is easily fabricated. Unlike glass mirror, Mirror can be used in food preparation, ceiling and high pedestrian areas because it will not shatter. Because of its uniform consistency, it's also excellent for panel-to-panel matching, which is suitable for architectural applications, such as wall panels, coping and trim. However, artists and others find many creative uses for it.

304 stainless steel sheet #4 finish is the brushed finish commonly seen on kitchen appliances and backsplashes. The 304 stainless steel sheet #4 finish has a PVC film on one side to help protect against scratching during fabrication and installation. Our 304 stainless steel sheet #4 finish meets the criteria for both the #3 and #4 finish.

 

If the 304 stainless steel sheet #4 finish is under 48" long, the customer has a choice on which way the grain of the brushed finish runs (for a 10% extra cost). To choose the direction of the grain, simply put the dimension in the "length" of the cost calculator that you want to have the grain run. For instance, on a 5" by 10" piece that the grain needs to run along the 10" dimension, put the 5" dimension in the "width" of the cost calculator and put the 10" dimension in the "length". Then on fabrication options (step 4), click "Yes" in the grain preference box. This is important if you have multiple pieces and would like the grain to be consistent. If no grain preference is chosen, Stainless Supply will use whatever is the best yield.

 

If you need any fabrication (grain preference, hemming, rounded corners), you must select the "cut to your size" option. The maximum thickness of 304 stainless steel sheet #4 finish that we can offer bending is 16 gauge. The maximum thickness of 304 stainless steel sheet metal that we can hem is 22 gauge. 304 stainless steel is a commercial grade of stainless steel sheet metal and the most widely used stainless steel. 304 stainless steel sheet metal is a versatile, anti-rusting and heat resistant steel for general use. 304 stainless steel sheet metal uses include food equipment, plumbing materials, kitchen sinks, and back splashes. 304 stainless steel sheet #4 finish is austenitic, meaning it will not attract or hold a magnet. If you need that option in stainless steel, the 430 grade will hold a magnet.
